Other Academic Activities and Achievements



1.        Author of more than 80 papers published in the open literature in prestigious refereed journals or conferences, including 14 papers in various IEEE Transactions. In addition, he is a frequent contributor of popular-science articles, particularly in Arabic.

2.        Viewed as a world authority on several topics; Invited to contribute (a) Reliability of k-out-of-n  Systems,  Chapter 5 in K. B. 3.        Developed important algorithms, including the AR algorithm, which is the optimal algorithm for k-out-of-n system reliability, and the R-ABC algorithm for reliability evaluation by system decomposition.

4.        Developed the real or probability transform which converts a stochastic Boolean function into its real expectation, and utilized this transform in setting rules for checking the correctness of symbolic reliability expression.

5.        Investigator, Co-investigator or consultant for many funded and unfunded research projects.

6.        Consultant for the Research and Consultation Institute (RACI) at King Abdulaziz University (2008).

7.        Member of the Editorial Boards of the IEEE Transactions on Instrumentation and Measurements (1986-1994), the IEEE Transactions on Reliability (1983-1998).

8.        Member of the Advisory Board of the Journal of Qassim University: Engineering and Computer Sciences (2008-now).

9.        Reviewer, referee, or examiner for many papers, reports, books, master or Ph.D. theses, proposals, and promotion or sabbatical-leave requests for several local and international entities.

10.    Past supervisor of the Experimental Engineering Laboratory, the Digital Design Laboratory, and the Automatic Control Laboratory.

11.    Past general Supervisor of the laboratories of Computer Engineering.

12.    Member or past member of several committees at the Faculty of Engineering level including: the Library Committee, the Educational Technology Committee, the Graduate Studies Committee and the Faculty Catalogue Committee.

13.    Member or past member of several committees at the department level including: the Executive Committee, the Graduate Studies Committee and the ABET (Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology) Committee. He is currently the ABET champion of the Computer Engineering Program. Previously, he was instrumental in achieving ABET Substantial Equivalency Recognition for the four programs of the ECE Department in 2003, and was praised by the official ABET report as a capable and dedicated individual while referring to his role as a director of the Computer Engineering Program.

14.    Academic advisor and mentor of graduate and undergraduate students.

15.    Included in the 10th Anniversary Edition of Marquis Who's Who in Science and Engineering, published in December 2007.

16.    His proposal for a Scientific Chair on "Reverse Engineering" won the RACI Best Proposal Award in the track of basic, engineering, and technical sciences in March 2008.

17.    Member of the Panel of External Reviewers for the Merit Scholarship Program of the Islamic Development Bank (IDB), May 2008.
